What is a rain Garden? A rain garden is a shallow depression planted soil area with deep-rooted native plants and grasses, positioned near a runoff source like a downspout, driveway or sump pump to capture runoff before it reaches the sewer system. Unchecked, storm water from rain or melting snow flows from rooftops and is not only wasted as a resource but transports pollutants to surface waters. Rain gardens are an environmental solution and an attractive landscape addition that brings all sorts of birds.
